Privacy Policy

Protocol

Protocol is a local-first workout tracking app. We do not operate a server, create user accounts, sell data, run ads, or collect analytics from the app.

Short version: your settings, exercise library, workout protocols, workout history, set details, notes, and bodyweight entries stay on your device unless you choose to export them or include them in an Apple device backup.

Scope

This Privacy Policy describes how the Protocol iOS app handles information. It is intended to explain Protocol's actual app behavior in plain language and support the privacy disclosures required for App Store distribution.

Effective date: July 19, 2026.

Data We Do Not Collect

The Protocol developer does not collect personal data from the app. Protocol does not include developer-operated analytics, advertising trackers, third-party SDKs, account registration, social features, or a developer-hosted backend service.

Protocol does not send workout data to the developer or other companies. Because the developer does not receive app data, we do not use it for advertising, marketing, profiling, analytics, resale, or tracking across apps and websites.

Information Stored Locally

Protocol stores the information needed to provide workout planning, tracking, history, and statistics on your device using Apple platform storage.

Information How Protocol Uses It Where It Is Stored
Settings Your preferred unit system and default rest duration tailor workout entry and display. On your device.
Exercises and protocols Exercise names, categories, activity types, visibility, order, planned set counts, and reusable protocol names are used to prepare workouts. On your device.
Workout history Workout dates, duration, protocol reference, exercise order, notes, optional bodyweight, and workout status are used to show current and completed sessions. On your device.
Set and activity details Weight, reps, time, distance, calories, completion state, and entry source are used to record performance and recommend values in later sessions. On your device.
Progress statistics Workout frequency, training volume, estimated one-repetition maximum, exercise progress, and records are calculated from your completed workouts. Calculated locally on your device from workout data.

Exports and Apple Backups

Protocol can create a JSON export at your request. The export can include settings, exercises, protocols, workout history, optional bodyweight entries, notes, and set details. Exported files are not encrypted by Protocol. Once you export, save, or share a file, you control where it goes and who can access it.

Information stored on your device may be included in Apple device backups depending on your iOS and iCloud settings. Apple handles those backups under Apple's own privacy terms.

Device Permissions and Network Access

Protocol does not require access to your location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone, health records, or advertising identifier. The current app does not require network access to provide its workout planning, tracking, export, or statistics features.

Retention and Deletion

Protocol keeps app data on your device until you edit it, delete it, reset the app's data, export it elsewhere, or remove the app. Protocol includes a Delete All Data control that removes workouts, protocols, exercises, and settings, then restores the built-in exercise library.

Because the Protocol developer does not collect or host your app data, there is no developer server account to delete and no server-side Protocol data deletion request to process.

Files you previously exported and Apple device backups are controlled separately. Delete those files or manage your Apple backup settings wherever they are stored.

Children's Privacy

Protocol is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since the Protocol developer does not collect app data, we do not knowingly maintain children's personal information on developer systems.

Security

Protocol relies on Apple platform storage and device security. No storage method is perfect, so protect your device with a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID where available, and current iOS updates. Treat exported JSON files as private because they may contain detailed workout and bodyweight information.

Changes to This Policy

If Protocol's privacy practices change, this page will be updated with a new effective date. App Store privacy disclosures should also be kept consistent with the app version then available.

For privacy questions about Protocol, contact the app developer through the support contact provided on Protocol's App Store listing.
